Retail Training

Purpose

The purpose of this training is to ensure that new and existing employees at Aggie Outdoors Inc, an outdoor recreation product retail location, develop consistent, accurate knowledge and skills for recommending appropriate footwear for a variety of outdoor activities, thereby increasing employee confidence, enhancing customer trust, and reducing the risk of unsafe outdoor practices.

Task Analysis

  • Recognize risks of improper footwear

    Understand common consequences (blisters, sprains, fatigue, poor performance).

    Relate risks to safety and customer satisfaction.

  • Identify key footwear types

    Trail shoes, hiking boots, water sandals, snow boots.

    Features: traction, support, waterproofing, insulation.

  • Match footwear to activity

    Short hikes vs. multi-day backpacking.

    Water sports vs. snow trekking.

    Consider weather, terrain, and load.

  • Communicate recommendations confidently

    Provide clear, customer-friendly explanations.

    Justify recommendations based on safety and activity needs

Learner Analysis

Demographics:

  • Age: 18-55+

  • Experience: Ranges from new hires with minimal retail or product knowledge to highly experienced staff with deep technical expertise..

  • Motivation: Employees need to quickly learn core skills to assist customers effectively and ensure safety. Experienced employees may need a refresher or a standardized reference point.

Learning Environment: Training will be delivered through the company's online Learning Management System (LMS) via TalentLMS. Learners will access the module on their own time, often during work breaks or before/after shifts. The training needs to be concise and easily digestible on both desktop and mobile devices.
